K = I'm aware of numerous educational games, most very simple.
W = More about how games can be used in education and examples of some of the best out there
L = I learned more about the thinking behind game design and the language of game design. It will now help me be more analytical when both using and designing games.
Reflection
I feel like this is a huge, important area and I don't know nearly enough about it. This course is definitely a step in the right direction though. We teachers have to evolve with the different generations of students who pass through our classrooms.
Level 2
Where do I start?
The water cycle (year 7) would definitely lend itself to gamification by giving students goals they have to achieve in their journey around the cycle. Periodic table (year 9) Easy to apply gaming concepts to this to help them become familiar with it.
Observe and reflect
(PhET atom builder game). I like the simplicity of this and it was perfect for weaker students. It was good to be able to get the hang of it with the simplest version first before moving into the timed challenges. It is timed and I like the multiple versions, equivalent to different challenge levels. It is only very simple in terms of rewards and levels though and could be improved in this area.
Janette, We really like the way your improved version of bingo forces collaboration and team work in the most positive way. You have used a familiar basis for your game but made it unique to your subject and students. The fact that the student got emotionally involved in the game shows you have pitched it to them perfectly. This shows you know them and how to help them engage with the content meangingfully. We have awarded you a quality thinking badge. - nice work!
Have you filled in the evaluation? Yep! Have you found the bonus level content? Sure did:)
